Massage License Renewal Requirements

  • 24 Continuing Education hours (CE) must be completed to renew your massage license by December 31 every even year

  • All continuing education (CE hours) may currently be completed online due to Covid-19 waiver

  • Students may not complete more than 12 continuing education hours in one calendar day

  • Mandatory course requirements:  (2) Ethics, (1) Illinois Approved Sexual Harassment Prevention Training

  • Not required for 2024 Illinois renewals (1) Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Awareness (required beginning with 2026 renewals)

From the Illinois State Massage Board: The Massage Therapy Practice Act 

Pursuant to 225 ILCS 57/67 of the Act, one hour of CE for domestic violence and sexual assault has been added to the CE requirement, increasing the total number of hours needed to 25 hours.  Please note, the 1 additional hour of CE for domestic violence and sexual assault will not be required for the 2024 renewal for massage licenses which expire on 12-31-24. Please note that all courses can be used for NCBTMB (National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork) recertification, NCBTMB Approved Provider #450015-06. Massage therapy laws change frequently and vary from state to state. Although we try to provide you with the most accurate information available, ultimately it is the responsibility of the student to contact their state licensing bureau to verify massage licensing renewal requirements and specific requirements for state courses. The state course bundles are created for your convenience only.

(Section scheduled to be repealed on January 1, 2027) Upcoming Changes In Requirements
    Sec. 67. Continuing education. The Department shall adopt rules for continuing education for persons licensed under this Act that require a completion of 25 hours of approved continuing education per license renewal period. For each license renewal period, one hour of continuing education shall be domestic violence and sexual assault awareness education as prescribed by rule of the Department. The one-hour domestic violence and sexual assault awareness continuing education course shall be provided by a continuing education provider approved by the Department. The Department may adopt rules regarding the requirements for domestic violence and sexual assault awareness continuing education courses and teachers. The Department shall establish by rule a means for the verification of completion of the continuing education required by this Section. This verification may be accomplished through audits of records maintained by the licensee, by requiring the filing of continuing education certificates with the Department, or by other means established by the Department.
